Cubs’ Willson Contreras (hamstring) undergoes further evaluation – NBC Chicago
Contreras (hamstring) out, Cubs awaiting word on severity originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Willson Contreras left Saturday’s game against the Diamondbacks at Wrigley Field with a strained right hamstring.
The Cubs were awaiting news of the severity of Contreras’ injury after their 7-6 loss to Arizona.
“I’m just going to call it a hamstring strain right now and keep getting it checked out,” manager David Ross said. “The docs watched it during the game and we’ll see what feedback we get.
Contreras signaled to the Cubs dugout late in the third inning amid a board appearance by Seiya Suzuki. Ross and a coach came out to watch him, and Contreras quickly left the field.
“The doctors are examining it,” Ross said. “There’s definitely something going on. We’ll find out how badly.”
Contreras missed an extended stretch in 2017 and 2019 with right hamstring strains.
“He wanted to be careful,” Ross said. “He had injuries in the lower half [at] time.”
He hit a second single base and stole moments before going out.
