Ron DeSantis’ wife diagnosed with breast cancer
Casey DeSantis, wife of Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
“I am saddened to announce that the esteemed First Lady of Florida and my beloved wife have been diagnosed with breast cancer,” he wrote in a statement obtained by Fox News On Monday.
âAs a mother of three young children, Casey is the centerpiece of our family and has made an impact on the lives of countless Floridians through her initiatives as First Lady. As she faces the most difficult ordeal of her life, she will not only have my unwavering support, but also the support of our entire family, as well as the prayers and wishes of Floridians across our state. Casey is a real fighter, and she will never, never, ever give up, âadded the governor.
DeSantis supported her husband throughout his first term as Governor of Florida, launching four initiatives herself, including âHope Florida – A Pathway to Prosperity, Economic Selfsufficiency and Hopeâ. She has accompanied the governor to locations statewide to promote his administration’s executive priorities, such as restoring in-person learning, providing monoclonal antibody treatments to COVID patients, and ending the COVID restrictive warrants. The governor fought the Biden administration for months over its priority of individual freedom over the state’s pandemic mitigation measures, including its ban on school mask warrants.
A rising star in the conservative movement, Ron DeSantis has long been viewed in GOP circles as a strong contender for the 2024 Republican nomination for president. Together, Casey and Ron DeSantis have three children.
The governor did not disclose the stage of development of his wife’s disease or the prognosis, although breast cancer is generally rarer in women in their 40s, which is the case with DeSantis. It is most often present in women aged 55 to 64, according to the National Cancer Institute.
