Ryan Giggs’ restaurant responds to negative reviews on TripAdvisor
Ryan Giggs’ restaurant has responded to less than desirable reviews from customers on TripAdvisor. Although George’s Dining Room & Bar in Greater Manchester has four stars on the platform and an AA rosette, some customers have complained of “poor” food and “slow” service.
Giggs, a Cardiff-born former Welsh football manager, opened George’s Dining Room and Bar with school friends, lawyer Kelvin Gregory and restaurateur Bernie Taylor, in 2014. The sumptuous 130-seat restaurant serves everything , from steak to fish and chips.
Following the comments, George’s promised to take them into account, but also defended itself, reports Manchester Evening News – many other TripAdvisor reviews have praised the venue for its “delicious” food and “lovely” service staff.

A restaurant, which said it went ‘quite frequently’ to the former Manchester United star’s George’s Dining Room & Bar, claimed to have eaten the ‘blandest’ fillet steak it had ever eaten, while that the fries served alongside were “definitely overcooked”. They added that the prices were “the worst” and “just crazy for the quality of the experience”.
Another customer said his restaurant experience was “not the best”, criticizing the “poor” food and slow service despite the restaurant not being busy. A third, who went for afternoon tea, said he was disappointed with the four small sandwiches, four desserts and the single scone, saying it was ‘definitely not’ worth the £20 a head that they paid.
Prices at the high-end restaurant range from £29 for an 8oz fillet and chips to £16 for cider-battered sustainable fish with thick Sagitta crisps, homemade tartar sauce and peas. Another customer, who posted to the review site in May, lamented the restaurant’s cancellation policy: “I was supposed to visit my family on May 27, 2022, but for health reasons I can’t can no longer attend, my brother booked a table for four on that day and had to give credit card details to confirm but when canceling was told he would be charged £5 each for cancellation.
Responding to the negative reviews, a spokesperson for George’s Dining Room & Bar said: ‘The George’s team values all feedback, and the overwhelming majority of reviews and comments for the restaurant are positive. The restaurant is proud of this, but is always ready to take feedback into account.
“The restaurant serves 1500 covers per week and has recently retained its AA rosette, which I think says a lot about the quality of service and food.”
However, not all reviews of George’s have been so negative, with many praising the staff and the quality of the food. A review from earlier in the week said “the food was delicious and highly recommend” and described the staff as “lovely”. Another from May praised George’s roast, calling it “the best roast beef” they remembered having. The guest also praised the “great atmosphere” and the “charming and helpful” service.
There were even several special mentions for one of the Jack servers. “Amazing service from Jack! Really enjoyed the food, got us a table for 11 with minimal notice. Thank you so much, we’ll be back!”
Another said: “Visited George’s as a little treat with my mum and grandma and so glad we did! Haven’t been in a while but it was spotless in the past so I was delighted that the service was still as great as I remember with very friendly staff!
“We had the hake, beef and lamb for main courses, which we all agreed were delicious, and shared fries. We all opted for the sticky caramel pudding for dessert, which was almost too good to be true!”
Last June, the restaurant called out customers who didn’t show up for their reservations, after registering more than 50 “no-shows” in a week. In a social media post, they blasted people who don’t come forward as “selfish and irresponsible”.
