Sumter School District’s open application period begins; requests assessed on a case-by-case basis, also depending on the space available in the schools

May is the open application period for K-12 students in the Sumter School District.

Applications are online only and can be accessed from the district’s website,, according to a district spokeswoman who distributed information and details Friday.

By clicking on the open registration icon on the district homepage, people can access the application, frequently asked questions for open registration and also out-of-area inquiries, and availability of the open registration which shows the schools and grade levels available.

As a reminder, current fifth and eighth year students with open enrollment must reapply before moving on to the next level.

After May 31, the open registration link will no longer be available.

A laptop computer is also available in the lobby of the district office, 1345 Wilson Hall Road, to help parents and families who may have limited internet access, according to Shelly Galloway, executive director of communications and community engagement. of the district.

For pre-K students, there is a separate application process and rules, and parents should contact District Early Childhood Director Sherrill Ray at (803) 774-5500 for more information. Any pre-kindergarten student attending an out-of-zone school must register at the zoned school for kindergarten or complete an open application for kindergarten.
