Woman and baby found dead at Frankton train station in Hamilton
A woman and a baby are among three people found dead in two incidents in Hamilton on Tuesday morning.
Police confirmed a woman and baby were found dead at a Hamilton train station and the area had been cordoned off.
Kiwirail confirmed a member of the public was hit by a freight train in Frankton just after 8am this morning.
Emergency services were called to Frankton train station around 8.10am Monday, according to a police statement.
“The police are carrying out a routine examination of the scene and offering support to those present at the scene.
“The death should be referred to the coroner.”
More than a dozen police officers were on the scene Monday morning.
Evidence markers and a white tent were visible at the scene.
St John said they sent six vehicles and an ambulance was still at the scene.
Kiwirail’s acting group chief executive, David Gordon, said these types of events are deeply traumatic for those involved, and our hearts go out to everyone involved.
The locomotive engineer has been furloughed and will be offered advice.
The line remains closed and there will be disruption to freight services between Hamilton and Tauranga.
During this time, Things understands that a person was found dead on Hamilton River Road in Whitiora on Tuesday in a separate incident, which police say was unrelated to Frankton’s death.
St John responded to the incident at 05:54 and dispatched an ambulance and rapid response vehicle.
Police were also on the scene.
